Why are there so many interpretations of Islam?by Rezaul Haque
That’s a good question – why there are so many interpretations of the Quran while Allah says:
“And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? “ (Al Quran #- 54:17)
Allah further says:
“We have given them a scripture that is fully DETAILED, with knowledge, guidance, and mercy for the people who believe.” ( Al Quran #7:52)
And the verse:
“The Word of your Lord is perfected in truth and justice. NONE CAN CHANGE HIS WORDS. He is the All Hearing.” – (Al Quran # 6:115)
So, it is obvious that when you are delivering the message of the Quran to someone, you cannot deliver the ‘interpretations’ of the verses, because that would change/ adulterate Allah’s words which Allah has forbidden in the verse MENTIONED above; you have to deliver the verse as is revealed which is further confirmed in the instruction to the Prophet in the verse below:
“O Messenger! MAKE KNOWN that which hath been revealed unto thee from thy Lord, for if thou do it not, thou will not have conveyed His message. Allah will protect thee from mankind. Lo! Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.” (Al Quran # 5:67)
Despite all these clear commandments why the ‘scholars’ choose to come up with their own interpretations? Disgustingly, all these interpretations differ from scholar to scholar. That’s the reason you find so many sects in the religion, because each sect chose to follow the interpretations of the ‘scholars’ they are most comfortable with; this is how the creation of sects in the religion began.
Division of Muslims into multiple sects goes against the very fundamental tenet of Islam which was non-existent during the time of the Prophet; as such God says in the verse below:
“As for those who split up their religion and became divided into sects, thou hast no concern at all with them. Surely, their affair is with ALLAH, then shall HE inform them of what they used to do.” (Al Quran# 6:159).
And the verse:
“You shall hold fast to the rope of GOD, all of you, and do not be divided. Recall GOD's blessings upon you - you used to be enemies and He reconciled your hearts. By His grace, you became brethren. You were at the brink of a pit of fire, and He saved you therefrom. GOD thus explains His revelations for you, that you may be guided.” (Al Quran# 3:103)
But all these reminders and warnings fell on the deaf ears. So, the Muslims choose to remain divided into the sects under various scholars based on their interpretations. The reason is obvious. It makes your life ‘easy and pleasurable’. Here are some to mention:
1. By way of interpretations you could cheat the poor of their due amount- Zakat.
2. You could sexually exploit the vulnerable women entrapping them into Muta and Misyar ‘marriages’
3. You could lawfully rape a housewife who has been wrongfully divorced by her husband pronouncing Triple Talaq at one go applying the Fatwa of Halala
4. You could maintain a Harem of women – war captives as your sex slaves
5. You could introduce the law of stoning to death to terrorize women; especially to control a Harem of women
6. You could beat the ‘rebellious’ wife to subjugate her, because you think God approves it
7. You could indulge in pedophilia as well because you believe and preach that your Prophet did it too
8. You could execute political opponents introducing the ‘law of apostasy’
9. You could shorten obligatory Salat even if you are in a pleasure trip ( while Allah’s clear commandment is only to shorten the prayer when you are travelling and there is a possibility of attack by the enemies, (verse #4:101).
10. You could levy Jizya as regular tax from non-Muslim citizens
11. You could attack a peaceful country/tribe in the name of Jihad
12. You could destroy the place of worship of the followers of other religions
13. Introduce so called Blasphemy law and execute the ‘offenders’ so that you could impose your interpretation to others
14. Abrogate verses of the Quran when you think it goes against your interest and prejudiced beliefs
And many more……..
Sadly, none of these practices are ever mentioned in the Quran but are adopted by different sects as taught by their scholars ignoring God’s commandment below:
“Follow that which has been sent down to you from your Lord, and follow no Auliah- أَوْلِيَاءَ (Guardian/ master/scholars), other than HIM. But you seldom take warning.” (Al Quran# 7:3)

Actually, re-reading the original question, I wonder if the person wants to know why there are so many sects?
I often ponder the question: why has just about every Muslim majority country made their own brand of Islam? Why have they permitted so much bida’a? And in the end, Shirk? I believe that for
